Yussuf Alli, the General Manager of Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, revealed this.
Because of Covid-19, the 2021 edition of the Access Bank Lagos City was an elites-only race.
Other elite races, such as London, Tokyo, and others, were Elite-only events, and many others were canceled.
However, starting September 2021, many events that were only open to elites in 2021 or were canceled have resurfaced as full races with thousands of participants.
Berlin Marathon, London Marathon, Chicago Marathon, Boston Marathon, and others are among them.
The New York Marathon is scheduled for November 7, and other races such as the Amsterdam Marathon, Dubai Tokyo, Paris, Houston, and others are scheduled for the latter part of the year and early 2022.
The World Athletics and the Association of International Marathons and Distance Races (AIMS) are both thrilled that the Access Bank Lagos City Marathon will return as a complete race, according to Alli.

“I'd also like to take this opportunity to reassure our many runners, particularly the 10km fun runners, who have visited our office or contacted us via phone, email, or our website, that on February 12, 2022, we will have a full race that will include the 10km race. I urge aspiring runners to increase their training."
A world news conference would be held the first week of November 2021 to unveil plans for the 2022 Access Bank Lagos City Marathon, according to the General Manager.
"This is our seventh edition, and we are the first marathon in Nigeria to do so." We're also the first race in Africa to win a World Athletics Bronze Label after two editions, and the first race in the world to win the prestigious Silver Label after four. We were awarded the Elite Road Race Label by World Athletics last year, and we are now one of the most sought-after elite races in the world, with prize money among the top ten in the world and the top five in the world in terms of competitors. I could go on and on. To accomplish all of this before our seventh edition screams for celebration, and the celebration isn't only for the employees, sponsors, and vendors, but also for the media and the thousands of runners who love and swarm our race," Alli explained.
