Nigerian's representative at the Women's long jump event, Ese Brume has won Bronze Medal after leaping to a 6.97m. 


This is Team Nigeria's first Athletics Medal at the Olympics in 13 years. This is also Team Nigeria's first medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.


Ese Brume qualified for the Women's long jump final after leaping to a 6.76m distance, 1cm ahead of the automatic qualifying mark. The Nigerian Athlete finished fifth place in Rio 2016, leaping to 6.81m distance, 2cm. She finished third at the World Championships in Doha, Qatar in 2019.

It was also a good outing for Nigeria's representative at the Men's 200 meters event, Divine Oduduru. He booked a semi-final spot by finishing second in his heat with a time of 20.36 seconds behind Jamaica's Rasheed Dwyer, who won the heat in 20.31 seconds. 


The Nigerian was left disappointed in his 100 meters heat after being disqualified for a false start, Oduduru sailed into the semi-finals of the men’s 200m at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games on Tuesday. 

The 24-year-old will look to secure a place in the final of the event later on Tuesday. He has been drawn in heat 1 of the semi-finals and will square up against Italy’s Eseosa Desalu and Qatar’s Femi Ogunode who both have Nigerian roots.


In other news, Patience Okon-George has been drafted into the Women's 4x100 meters team. This means the quartet of Tobi Amusan, Ese Brume, Okon George, and Grace Nwokocha will represent Nigeria in the relays.
