The newly remodeled Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba is set to host its first event, christened ‘The Oyo State Summer Athletics Clinic’.

The event which is organized by the Oyo State Athletics Association will be a 4-week athletics clinic for young and aspiring athletes in the state and will take place at the main bowl of the renovated stadium.


The clinic will commence on Monday, August 9 and it is designed to accommodate athletes between the ages of 8-17 years.


Event holds between 7am to 10am, Monday to Friday and will feature sprint races (100m, 200m and 400m), long distance races; (800m, 1500m and 3000m) as well as field events (long jump, high jump, triple jump, javelin, discuss, shot put, hammer) amongst others.

According to the Chairman of the association, Isaac Friday Ogada, the initiative is aimed at catching athletes young at the grassroots so as to nurture young talents to stardom.

" As a compliment to the effort of the sports loving governor, who is currently building world class sports facilities across the state, the association deemed it fit to organise programme aimed at catching the athletes young”, Ogada enthused.


" The clinic preceeds the u-17 athletics championship that will be used to select athletes that will represent Oyo state at the forthcoming National Youth Games in Ilorin come October.

" Oyo state performed creditably well in athletics at the last National Youth Games held at the University of Ilorin, and is determined to consolidate on that performance to do even better, he concluded.
