Former Super Eagles player, Benedict Akwuegbu has declared his intention to run for the Presidency of the Nigeria Football Federation and this has receive a boost, as football stakeholders has assured their support for the former international to take over leadership from Mr Amaju Pinnick 

Akwuegbu who disclosed this in an interview said the concerned football leaders from various parts of the country, most of whom are from the Northern part of the country have expressed their discontent with the present leadership over the dwindling fortunes of the beautiful game in Africa’s largest nation under the present administration.


Akwuegbu, former U17 and U23 player has disclosed that his desire to run for the NFF Presidency would be to improve and ensure quality football at grassroots level and also qualify Nigeria for the next World Cup.

The former technical director of Mighty Jets Football Club, also explained that Nigeria is a top football nation, if elected, I hope to improve on this so that the country can be ranked among the best football nations in the world exactly what we achieved at USA '94 World Cup

He promised that he was ready to work with all football stakeholders in the country," I played the game to managerial position and as such will be ready to be the president of the federation. I am ready to work with all stakeholders in football in the country, in order to make Nigeria football great and be reckoned with, not only on the continent, but the world at large”

Akwuegbu also noted that footballers featuring for the country are usually at the receiving end of the poor administrating of the game, and promised to address the issue if he is elected as the NFF leader.

The NFF election has been fixed to hold later this year and he promised to unfold his agenda for the transformation of the country’s football in the days to come.
