The chairman of Kwara State Football Association, Idris Musa Abdullahi has poured encomiums on his Ekiti State counterpart, Bayo Olanlege for his passion to developing football from the grassroots in Ekiti State.

Abdullahi who was among the guests at the maiden Ekiti State Football Association Merit Awards told sports journalist in Ado-Ekiti on Monday that he was fascinated with the positive and rapid change Olanlege has brought to football in Ekiti.


Abdullahi popularly called Thuraya described Sunday's event as one of the best he had attended in recent time.

" Kudos to Olanlege and his board members for organising a Merit Award of this magnitude to recognized outstanding individuals and rewarding them for their contribution and hard work to   football in the State.

When you appreciate someone by giving him an award is appreciating him which means you are encouraging that person. I think what they've done is to encourage the youth because football is about grassroot development.

The Kwara FA boss urged Olanlege not to relent but build on the successes achieved by his board to complement and encourage other sectors of the game.


" Grassroots is not just about football alone, we have young coaches, referees and a lot of other places to develop the FA.

" I encourage them to look at these places too by organising seminars, educating the referees, coaches and players, by also paying course fees for referees and coaches particularly."

He added: The FA should look at bringing in more partners and sponsors because that the only way they'll have enough to develop the grassroots."
