The Nigeria Basketball Federation has decided to postpone the election for 2021, which was scheduled for Saturday, October 30th in Benin City.
Following its Extraordinary Congress conducted via Zoom on Thursday, October 28th, 2021 to review the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development's position, the congress agreed that resolving lingering concerns is in the sport's long-term interest in Nigeria.

Engr Ahmadu Musa Kida, President of the NBBF, encouraged the Congress to follow and appreciate the FMY&S's proposal to postpone the Elective Congress so that all concerns highlighted for successful elections in 2021-2025 may be addressed.

The congress overwhelmingly voted to postpone the Elective Congress by a few weeks, with just 11 states absent and some expressing regret.

They also directed the NBBF President to engage the FMY&SD in a constructive dialogue about holding free, fair, transparent, and successful elections to elect a new Board of Directors.

The NBBF President, Engr Ahmadu Musa Kida, was also given a vote of confidence for the unrivaled achievements he has overseen since joining the board in 2017.

They expressed their gratitude to the Honourable Minister, Chief Sunday Dare, and his team for their unwavering support for the NBBF board, and expressed their optimism for a stronger working relationship between the NBBF and the Government.
