Top flight Scottish football Club Rangers announced the signing of Nigerian international defender Leon Balogun on Friday, July 24th just hours after he departed relegated Wigan Athletic to division 3 in England. 

Balogun joins Rangers on a 1-year deal, with an option to extend for a further year with the Scotland based football club. He joins from Premier League side Brighton and Hove Albion after spending loan spell with Championship side Wigan Athletic.


Rangers announced his signing through a message on their official Twitter handle that said,  “#RangersFC are today delighted to announce the signing of
@NGSuperEagles international defender @LeonBalogun on a 1-year deal, with Rangers having an option for a further year.”

In a statement on Rangers Football Club official website, manager of the club Steven Gerard full of excitement about the signing stated that he is pleased with the arrival of Balogun.

He said,  "I am pleased to secure the signature of Leon. He is an experienced center-half who will add strength and depth to our squad.

" His experience in the Premier League as well as his international pedigree strengthens our squad and will assist in the development of our young defenders.

" Leon has just finished a round of competitive fixtures with Wigan so will hit the ground running. He’s a positive and bright character and we are looking forward to his influence around the group”
