Rasheed Shodiya Balogun, General Manager Shooting Stars Sports Club, but if table were to turn he would probably be known as a pilot.

As a young boy growing up in Lagos Island, he always dreamed of becoming a pilot, flying big planes.

The highly experienced football administrator grew up in Lagos Island and recalled how he was so determined to learn how to fly aircrafts citing the frequent passage of aircraft at their residence as an inspiration.

The former General Coordinator of the defunct Dolphins Football Club now Rivers United, revealed this while reacting to questions from journalists on one of Nigeria’s top Sports Forum, Family United by Football (FUBF) on Sunday evening.

" I’m from a family of six, my dad hail from Abeokuta, while my mum was from Lagos State and I grew up in Lagos Island,” he told FUBF.

" I wanted to be a pilot when I finished secondary school, I was so determined that my grandma thought I was too obsessed with it.

" The inspiration grew in me because we had a lot of plane fly past our roofs back then at Lagos Island and looking up to the sky, I always think about the projectiles of the plane.

" My grandma (Iya alaro) discouraged me from pursuing my career as a pilot because she thought it was too risky and probably didn’t want to lose me, after losing her daughter (My mum) at a tender age.

" So she outrightly discouraged my uncle who was ready to sponsor me to aviation school and that was how I shifted attention to my second love, which is football.

" After the disappointed, I joined Stationary Stores and worked as a scout. I helped to convince players like Peter Rufai, Joe Appiah and a host of other great players to play for the club back then. I learnt a lot from the job and soon started getting offers from other clubs because of my hardwork and dedication to work,” he concluded.

Balogun, a disciplinarian and a grassroots football manager has contributed immensely to the development of football in Lagos, Ogun, Ondo and Oyo State.
