Passionate Football fans in Nigeria have been guessing for some weeks on the future of Gernot Rohr, The Franco German faces an uncertain future as his contract with the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) expires in June 2020.

There have been divided opinions on whether he deserves the $55,000 per month salary, while some belief he has done enough to merit a renewal, others want the NFF to walk away and move forward.

According to Ademetan Abayomi, an intelligent Sports Journalist, Here are reasons why NFF should not hand fresh terms to the tactician.

Since the 66-year-old gaffer has been in charge of the three-time African champions, he has been claiming to be rebuilding a Young team. When will the rebuilding process be over?

The NFF are no longer finding it funny in terms of funding their programs. The Minister for Youths and Sports Sunday Dare has been the saving grace for them in recent times as he always ensure finance from the Ministry is not a Problem.

At some point highly respected Politician and Philanthropist, Dr Patrick Ifeanyi Ubah reportedly paid the salaries of the ex Bordeaux manager.

Aiteo is allegedly no longer showing financial commitment to the NFF but they haven’t informed the Public about it.

There has been alleged murmuring from Rohr on his unpaid salaries in the past. But the NFF quickly dismissed such claims.

Maybe a cheaper alternative to Rohr might be the solution for now. Paying $55k per month at this period of economic meltdown might be a waste.

In the 80s and 90s, the Super Eagles were respected for their high pressing and dearing pattern that won them admirers in the Global World.

A German coach is shrewd in his approach. Berti Vogts was also an advocate of safe first approach which didn’t serve the Super Eagles at the long run against quality oppositions.

Under Rohr, the Super Eagles are so boring to watch with one wondering if it’s the real Super Eagles we know.

Modern day football gives room for a team to express itself using the wings as focal point with skillful players around the box.

A national team coach should eat with the people, mingle and have affinity with the environment. Clemence Westerhoef succeeded because he felt like a Nigerian, this gave him the chance to comb the nooks and crannies of Nigeria to discover players.

But Rohr has spent more time in Europe than Nigeria, preferring already materials and electing against development.

Age might be a factor in the most important reason why the NFF shouldn’t renew Rohr’s contract. At 66, the coach lacks the energy to tinker the Super Eagles.

His decisions in key matches are often faulty. Nigeria didn’t deserve to crash out of the first round of Russia 2018, Same with the 2019 AFCON semi final loss to Algeria.

There is need for the NFF to sit down and have a re think on the future of Gernot Rohr as he has overstayed his jamboree in Nigeria. It’s time for an ex-international to takeover. Maybe Emmanuel Amunike or Finidi George. Time will tell.
