Emmanuel Amunike
Sporting Director of Egyptian club El Makkasa, Emmanuel Amunike has hinted, with a polite expression of praise on the need to respect Gernot Rohr's contract till its expiration in June amidst rumuors of a possible replacement should he defer in getting a new deal with the NFF.

Speaking to award-winning Sports Journalist George Essien via telephone on Comfort 95.1FM, Amunike dispelled rumuors of him being linked as possible replacement adding that Rohr has not done poorly with the senior national team.

He also hinted on the abilities a coach should possess "Well, nobody has contacted me. He (Rohr) is still under contract, we have to respect that.

" From my own point of view,I don't think he has done bad so far. He took us to the World cup, then to AFCON and we came third. For me to start talking about a coach with a contract,I don't think it is fair".

" As a person, you must know your limit and what you are capable of, You must have the ability to transmit to your players. Football is a project. To win the world cup and AFCON you must have a plan and project. Look at the players that can fit into a plan based on the objectives set from the individual, technically and mental points of view".

He added: " Football has gone beyond assembling players from Madrid, Barcelona with no plan and we go into a game hoping to win, there is no way that will happen".

Amunike who was a member of the FIFA Technical study group to the 2018 World cup in Russia recalled his outstanding performance on the 10th of April,1994 when he scored the two goals that helped Nigeria win that edition of AFCON in Tunisia with a 2-1 victory over Zambia:

" I never really expected to play in the final, I only got to know two days before the final and I said to myself If it pleases the Lord to play. We trained a lot and that helped me to remain focused.

" So when given the opportunity I contributed my best. I'm glad I was given the opportunity by Westerhof and Bonfrere. I'm grateful for every opportunity to serve my Nigeria".
