Gov. Akinwnmi Ambode and Late Ayodeji Tinubu
Malam Farouk Yarma, Commissioner Youth Empowerment Gombe State has expressed his sadness after the news broke of the death of Deji Tinubu.

Late Deji Tinubu was Special Assistant on Sports to Lagos State Governor, His Excellency Akinwunmi Ambode and former Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) board member.

A statement issued by the media department of the Gombe Youth Empowerment Ministry read: "The news of Deji Tinubu's death is shocking, as he was full of life.
"Late Deji was a fine gentleman, full of ideas and an advocate of grassroot sports. He was my friend and critic when I was the pioneer Executive boss of Gombe State Sports Commission (GSSC).

"He's a big loss to Lagos sports, the football family, sports journalism and his numerous admires as he was a role model," said Yarma.

"On behalf of my family and grassroot team FC Yarmalight, my prayers and condolences are to his immidate family, Lagos State government and Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
"Pray Allah (God) in his infinite mercy forgive him of his short comings and above all grant him paradise."

"I also want to appeal to the Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, its good people and the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to immortatize late Deji Tinubu. This is to show respect for him and the legacy he left behind as he set a standard for Lagos Sports.

"His positive contributions while in the Executive board of the NFF to ensuring that the Super Eagles and other National teams (Male & Female) meet standards and match other World Class teams can not be quantified. He was a real gem."

Late Deji Tinubu, the immediate past Chairman of Lagos Sports Commission on Thursday evening slumped while taking part in football game at the ongoing retreat/meeting organised by the Lagos State Government for members of its Executive Council in Epe.
Tinubu who was immediately rushed to the Epe General Hospital was later confirmed dead by doctors.
