Virtues of the Chief Executive Officer of the League management Company Malam Salihu Abubakar were extols with various encomiums pouring in from fans and supporters of the Nigerian League for the man who has contributed so much to the growth of the league without making any noise in the media last week Friday at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Adamasingba, Ibadan when the General Manager of the oldest surviving football club in Nigeria, Shooting stars of Ibadan.
Mr Rasheed Balogun finally receive the plaque of the Sports Media Ambassadors Award on the recipients behalf for his various contributions to the development and growth of sports especially football and the Nigerian Professional League in particular.
The brief presentation which was done during the second half of the training match which saw 3SC Ibadan pumelling Sam Jarson of Lagos by 4: 1 in the presence of a fairly large crowd of Management and supporters of Shooting stars and the Oyo FA / Sports council including the Chairman Of Shooting Stars, Alhaji Gbolagade Busari and Chief Odeniran to mention but few.
While receiving the award the Mr Rasheed Balogun, appreciated the organisers of the award for deeming it fit to recognise an enigma in Nigeria football administrator in person of Mallam Salihu and re echoed his various contributions to the growth Nigerian League.
‘I am happy to finally receive this award on behalf of one of the most respect and experienced sports administrator in Nigeria, Mallam Salihu Abubakar mandated me to receive this award on his behalf because the date last year December coincides with an urgent trip to Egypt country to Egypt. I was unavoidably absent at the event too because of an official assignment and I was told the program was a huge success as recipients even flew in from outside the country. I hereby thank the organisers for delivering the plaque to me today against all odd in such a befitting atmosphere.
‘I must let you know that Mallam Abubakar appreciates this gesture of recognising his input in the growth of Nigerian football and I know he cherishes it a lot and this would spur him up to do more for the country. He has asked me to assure all Nigerians that Nigerian League would grow better under the administration of the chairman of League Management Company, Mallam Shehu Dikko with the unflinching support from the parent body of the Nigerian Football Federation, led by Amaju Pinnick and his vice, Barrister Seyi Akinwunmi and urged all Nigerians to give them their full support’.

In his response the secretary of the Sports Media Ambassadors, Mr Ayo Ademokoya who presented the award said the chairman and vice of the organisation would like to thank the GM for his understanding and further eulogise the virtue of Mallam Abubakar.
‘I met Mallam Salihu before they moved to Maitama in January, 2015, he was then holding forth of the leadership of LMC at that time. This gentle Mallam is a silent achiever who has been working so hard at the LMC not minding public recognition. I remember him holding forth the leadership of LMC when there was a vacuum despite the imbroglio he stabilised the affairs of Nigeria football with no ado and when his name cropped up for nomination at our meeting I fully supported because he is a man of many virtue who loves our football clubs especially Mighty Jets of Jos and Shooting stars.
‘Apart from these, many disciplinary measure were and are still strictly meted out to erring football clubs from his office as the Chief Operating Officer without any bias which brought sanity to our league as I have been privileged to see him work assiduously in his office right from day one when Mallam Shehu Dikko mandated him to receive me on his behalf when I came for the presentation of the Golden Book of Shooting Stars on the 8th of August 2015 and you think this person isn’t worthy of recognition?
He communicated through the GM of Shooting stars that he won’t be around last December personally to receive the award and I thank God for giving us the opportunity to present the plaque to him in a befitting manner.
