The organiser and sponsor of Owan marathon, Christopher Ojo has given more insight into the seven-kilometre marathon race which is slated for January 2, 2018.
The United States-based software engineer, who gave this insight in the United State said the race will kick off by 7 am on January 2 from Afuze to Sabo in Owan, Edo state, Southern Nigeria. The competition which has been duly registered for by over hundred (100) athletes, has a total of N100, 000 for the winner of the race, N50,000 for the 2nd place, N30,000 for the third place and seven (7) other consolation prizes.
He further said "The OWAN marathon is a way for us to source local talents and when we eventually get a winner we are going to project that winner to compete in a global marathon since we have come to the realization that we have a lot of talents that are never tapped into because of the fact that they never had opportunity, so that is why we are doing this.

Christopher also echoed "When he was growing up, I didn’t know how much talent that I had while in Nigeria because I was not accorded the opportunity to do some of the things I am doing today. So when I left Nigeria, I realized that some people are given opportunity and they shine so that projected me and when I came back home, I had to put in some little projects to empower our youths. We will also set up computer centres to train people on software development, so basically I am actually inspired by my own experience to give back to the community and we are also getting the support of one of our First Lady who is linking us up with the sports federation, however, I want you to note that this is not like a sporting event or like an Olympic, I regard this like a kind of event to scout for local talents,
"Also talking about sponsorship Ojo said "I really don’t have any for now because like I said I am not trying to show off but the prizes are small and are things I can handle by myself, eventually maybe when we do other editions we will open up the avenue for people to sponsor but at the moment we are not looking for one and it is open to all no cutoff age, however, we will have medical personnel on site that will validate people and we also have the First AID team that will help cater for people when they are tired. Anybody who is physically fit can participate.
Ojo Christopher concluded" Immediately after this event, we are setting up a computer learning centre where we can train people on software development.
