Drawn against Argentina, Croatia and Iceland,  the Super Eagles now face the herculean task of overcoming two of the emerging  super powers of European football and a Messi inspired Argentina in group D of the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Immediately Spain World Cup star Carlos Puyol dipped his hand into the pot and flashed the name Argentina to a curious world audience,  fear gripped millions of Nigeria football fans across the globe but one man, Ahmed Yusuf Fresh remained upbeat and confident after watching the Super Eagles humble their South American counterpart 4-2 in a recent friendly match played in Krasnodar, Russia, earlier this month.

" This is a fantastic draw for Nigeria , Fresh said from Kano, where he is guest of honour at the 2017 Ahlan Cup, a pre- season tournament ahead of the 2017/2018 Nigeria premier league season.

We have no reason to fear,  we defeated Argentina only recently in Russia and am confident we can humble them again even with Messi in the fold.

Croatia and Iceland are unfamiliar foes but we will take each game as they come.

Our target is to make it to the last four of the 2018 World Cup in Russia and this draw has given me renewed confidence that we can achieve that feat.

As chairman technical and development committee of the NFF,  Fresh was expected to be part of the strong delegation that went to Russia for the draw but the amiable chairman of Niger state football association,  used this opportunity to explain why he is not in Russia for the draw.

" I have other commitments,  I was scheduled to receive an award in South Africa but due to some logistic problems, I had to call off the trip and as we speak am in Kano as special guest at the annual Ahlan Cup,  a pre season tournament organised by Kano state FA chairman,  Sheriff Inuwa who only recently took over the chairmanship position of the referees appointment committee from his close friend, Fresh.

"We must work very hard to qualify from that group.  Argentina and Croatia are top teams in World football,  Iceland topped their world cup qualifying group so they are no pushovers. We cannot be complacent believing we defeated  the South Americans in a recent friendly.  We must remember too that they have beaten us at this stage four times before.

If we work really hard we can scale the hurdle in group D he concluded" Nigeria's first match will be against Croatia, on June 16.
