But for the heroics of veteran goalkeeper, Dele Aiyenugba, between the sticks in the closing moments of the match day 5, NPFL 2021/2022 season for home side, Kwara United, Rangers International F.C would have left the Kwara Stadium complex with the maximum points at stake as both sides settled for a 1-1 draw.

Chisom Samuel shot the host into the lead at the half hour mark after Bamidele Adeniyi failed to puch clear a Kabiru Balogun’ long-throw even as the host enjoyed a larger percentage of dominance in the first stanza.

Ossy Martins restored parity for the ‘Flying Antelopes’ as he reacted well to nod home a Julius Ikechukwu’ inviting cross just three minutes into the second stanza to send a grave-yard silence all over the arena save for the few travelling team that celebrated.

On 65 minutes, the host were awarded a penalty kick by the referee for an unclear incident inside the box but captain of the day for the ‘Harmony Boys’, Christopher Nwaeze blasted the spot kick against the cross bar to the relief of the travelling squad from the Coal City.

Kenechukwu Agu had two opportunities to annex all three points at stake for the visitors in added-on time as his corner kick that was headed for the bottom corner of the first post was expertly beaten out by Aiyenugba while his lobby from his team’ half missed target by whiskers with the shot stopper off his goal line.

Rangers gaffer, Abdul Maikaba said after the encounter, “It was a good match against a good side. We came here not to concede a goal but after we went behind in the first half, we knew we had to work harder.

To the credit of my players, they rose to the occasion with the equalizer and got lucky not to have gone behind from the penalty spot and would have wrapped up the game with the missed chances in the last moments of the match. We are happy with the result but it could have been better.”

Rangers are now occupying the 4th position on the twenty team log with eight points from five matches, winning two, drawing two and losing one behind Remo Stars, Rivers United and Enyimba International on eleven, ten and nine points respectively from the same number of matches.
