After weeks of speculation, Engr Musa Kida has formally stated his desire to run for President of the Nigeria Basketball Federation.
The Federal Ministry of Sports recently declared September 30th as the date for the Sports Federation elections.
Following four years of great leadership, he stated he made this choice after extensive deliberation with important stakeholders.
“I am formally announcing my intention to run for President of the United States. After discussing with basketball stakeholders whom I desire to continue to serve, I have decided to re-enter the federation's leadership race for the next four years.
“We have achieved some amazing results and there is a need to consolidate on the gains that we have recorded since I came on board in 2017,” Kida said, explaining why he intends to stay in office. It's been an incredible adventure with many ups and downs, but it's been rewarding to be able to serve the people and build the game.”

Kida managed the rebuilding of the Division One men's league and the launch of the Division Two women's league, both of which were sponsored by Total Nigeria and had over 80 clubs.
The Zenith Women League was also expanded during his tenure, with the addition of MFM Basketball Club of Lagos and Air Warriors of Abuja.
With greater awareness of basketball as a brand both within and outside the country, the game has continued to rise in popularity.
On the international level, the D'Tigress have won back-to-back Afrobasket championships and are aiming for a third later this month.
D'Tigress got to the quarterfinals of the FIBA World Cup in Spain for the first time in its history before qualifying for the 2020 Olympics as the lone African team.
