The Nigeria Basketball Federation has condoled with the family of late Ayodeji Jaiyeola who died on Tuesday, 17th of August 2021 after celebrating his 60th birthday on the 1st of August 2021.

In a letter signed by the NBBF Secretary-General, Afolabi-Oluwayemi Olabisi, and addressed to the family, the federation expressed deep sadness over the death of the former Nigerian legend.

The deceased was a patron of Youth Alive Sports, Basketball Cruisers '75-85' Veteran Club, and First Lagos Veteran Basketball where he kept contributing his quota after retirement.

The Nigeria Basketball Federation has expressed its condolences to the family of late Ayodeji Jaiyeola, who passed away on Tuesday, August 17th, 2021, just one day after celebrating his 60th birthday on August 1st.

In a letter given to the family, the NBBF Secretary General, Afolabi-Oluwayemi Olabisi, expressed deep regret over the passing of the former Nigerian legend.

The deceased was a supporter of Youth Alive Sports, Basketball Cruisers '75-85' Veteran Club, and First Lagos Veteran Basketball, to which he continued to contribute after his retirement.

“During his lifetime, late Ayodeji Jaiyeola was an inspiring mentor to basketball players. As a leader who has made significant contributions to the game of basketball, he was incredibly encouraging and motivating.”

While on the national squad, he was described as a reputable player by the federation.

“We at NBBF, as well as his friends and family, will undoubtedly miss him greatly.”

At Oluyole '79, Ayodeji Jaiyeola joined the Lagos State Intermediate Team, where he played alongside legends such as Akeem Olajuwon, Gbade Olatona, Peter Nelson, and others.

For many years, he was a part of the famed Leventis Buffaloes, Lagos Islanders, Ebun Comets, YMCA, Union Bank, and Cowries Basketball Clubs, all of which are located in Lagos State.

At Africa Nation's Cups and All Africa Games, he represented Nigeria at both the junior and senior levels.

In 1986, he represented CMS Grammer School at the World Schools Games in Graz, Austria, where he was the sole African and Nigerian in the All Stars Team.

The federation prayed that God would offer the departed's soul eternal life while also comforting those left behind.
