Pioneer Executive Chairman of Gombe State Sports Commission, Malam Farouk Yarma has lauded the choice of Austin Eguavoen as the new Technical Director of the Nigeria Football Federation.

Eguavoen, 55, was on Tuesday named by the Glass House to replaces Bitrus Bewarang whose expired contract was not renewed for another term.

In a statement, Yarma showered encomiums on Eguavoen, saying the former Super Eagles vice-captain and coach was round peg in a round hole.


" I received with delight the news of the appointment of Austin Eguavoen as Director Technical of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF). This is one choice by the football ruling house that gladdens the heart of every football stakeholder in the country.

" I would like to congratulate my friend Coach Austin Eguavoen for achieving this career milestone. The appointment is a case of a round peg in a round hole.

" Eguavoen is respected for his humble nature, he is a complete gentleman that thrives on according respect to everyone. When we worked with him in Gombe United, exhibited former Super Eagles vice-captain exhibited his inherent modesty and he never disrespect anyone. 

" He deserves the appointment because of his technical prowess and transparency. He carries everybody along in his dealings, he is detrabalised and adept with knowledge of football technicalities and administration. 


" The Nigerian Football Federation has made the right choice and need to be commended. May the tenure of the new Technical Director bring good tidings to Nigerian football, " said the former Honourable Commissioner for Youth and Empowerment Gombe State.

According to the statement released by the NFF Communications Department, Eguavoen is expected to work with Paul Aigbogun (Deputy Director, Technical & Scouting) and Terry Babatunde Eguaoje (Consultant on Coaching & Development).

Others in the newly constituted Technical Department include; Abdulrafiu Yusuf (Assistant Director, Coaching & Development); Siji Lagunju (Assistant Director, Training & Development) and; Garba Lawal (Chief Technical Officer).
