The left-back has moved to Russian side FC Khimki on a season-long loan deal from Lokomotiv for the 2020/21 Russian Premier League season.

Khimki were promoted to the elite league after finishing second in the Russian National Football league (second division) last term.

Idowu has decided to leave Lokomotiv after making only 12 Premier League appearances last season and Khimki have since released the following statement:

" The lease agreement with the Nigerian defender is calculated until the end of the season.” Brian Idowu is a graduate of the St. Petersburg Smena.

He began his adult career at Amkar and made his debut in the Premier League as part of the Perm club.”

" While playing for Amkar on loan, he spent one season at Dynamo St. Petersburg. After the disbandment of the Perm club, he moved to Lokomotiv Moscow as a free agent, where he played before joining the camp of the red-blacks.”

" The footballer also played 10 matches for the Nigeria national team, including three at the World Cup in Russia.”

" We welcome Brian to Khimki and wish you successful performances for our team,” a club statement read. The 28-year-old defender’s father is Nigerian and his mother is half-Russian, half-Nigerian and he was born in Saint Petersburg.
