Former industrious Super Eagles striker Benedict Akwuegbu, has added values to the lives of some of his retired colleagues with a surprise package of a car gifts amid the current Covid-19 pandemic.

The Africa Cup of Nations silver medalist in year 2000 and ex Grazer AK of Austria forward is currently holidaying in Jos, Nigeria from is base in the UK. After organising the inaugural edition of the Plateau Legends and Ben Akwuegbu Unity Cup Football Tournament last month.

According to Complete Sports, it was gathered that two of the four Golf cars have been given out although Akwuegbu would not want to make it public the identities of the beneficiaries.

Akwuegbu said " You can Call it COVID-19 palliative if you like, but I just see it as nothing special, this is just what i have to do as human, adding value has been part of me a long time ago, even when i am in the Super Eagles team,” the ‘Austria Bomber emphasized.

" Giving away four cars to my former colleagues, for me, is not something special. From my humble beginning, I was brought up to be my brother’s keeper,” the former Golden Eaglets, Flying Eagles and Super Eagles striker told the reporter.

" I’ve been in town since March, before the Coronavirus Outbreak got escalated, I organised the Akwuegbu Unity Cup and Plateau Legends match last month with good response from my former colleagues and friends.

" Yes, it was a huge success. It also opened my eyes to the real situation on ground including the plight of our people following the Coronavirus Pandemic, So, I thought it will be wise enough to offer my own widow’s might in the way of assisting my close friends by helping them out mobility-wise.

Akwuegbu while playing for the National team, he scored eight times in 30 appearances and was instrumental to the team that went to Korea/Japan 2002 World Cup.

He was the former Assistant General Manager of Heartland Football Club of Owerri, had career spells at Panserraikos, Greece (2006-2007), Qingdao Jonoon, China (2007), Beijing Hongdeng, China (2008) and Basingstoke Town, England (2009-2010) before calling it quit on his career.

Akwuegbu, 45, also played in RC Lens, France (1991-92), KSC eedracht Aalst, Belgium (1992-93), Harelbek, Belgium (1994-96), Waregem, Belgium (1996-97), Tienen, Belgium (1997-98), Grazer AK, Austria (1998-2002), Sheyang Ginde, China(loan 2002), Grazer AK , Austria (2002-2004), FC Karnten, Austria (2004), St Gallen, Switzerland (2004-2005), Wacker Innsbruck, Austria (2005-2006), Siegen, Germany (2006) and Tianjin Teda, China (loan 2006).
