An 84th minute goal by Isiaka Mutiu, was all that gave Shooting Stars Sports Club (3SC) of Ibadan, a deserved victory over Osun United, in an Aiteo Cup Round of 64 match decided at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium, Ado EKiti.

The win confirmed the Oluyole Warriors' superiority over the Omoluabi giants, having previously beating the Osun based side in the Nigeria National League (NNL).

It was a grudge match which Osun United approached with revenge on their minds, while the Ibadan soccer lords came with the mindset of recording another win over their Southwest neighbours.

The encounter, played on a sandy and bumpy pitch, saw Osun United, backed by their noisy travelling fans who invaded Ado Ekiti in large numbers  for the match, trying to size up the Stars.

The Omoluabi giants fought to steal the show but had their efforts thwarted by the determined Oluyole Warriors.

The first half was pulsating as none of the two teams could find the much needed opener.

However, the tide of the game changed in the second half as 3SC turned the heat on their opponents, who had lost steam, having exhusted their energy while trying to curtail the more experienced Shooting Stars in the first half.

Spearheaded by skipper Omololu Waheed, the Oluyole Warriors caged the giants to their half, silencing the vociferous Osun United fans with their football artistry, which earned them applause from the stands.

Ayobami Junior,  Opeoluwa Olufemi, Mohammed Akilu and later Ifegwu Ojukwu kept presurising the defenders of Osun United while skipper Omololu, Abbey Benson, Taiwo Muritala and Ogundimu Mutiu did not allow any slip at the rear, giving goalkeeper Lucky Jimoh adequate coverage.

After recording a number of misses, luck finally smiled on the Stars six minutes from time when goalkeeper Anderson Okakem spilled the ball off a free kick by Ifegwu Ojukwu, only for Isiaka Mutiu to tap in from the rebound.

That was the goal that separated the two sides, ensuring that 3SC, apart from confirming their superiority over Osun United, qualified for the next round of the Aiteo Cup.
