Sikiru Olatunbosun and Waheed Adebayo celebrates
the goal against Akwa United

CAF Champions League debutants, Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries FC beat Akwa United 1-0 in a Matchday 8 rescheduled game of the ongoing Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) season  played on Friday at the Soccer Temple, Agege Stadium.

It was indeed an exciting game for the two teams as they entertained their teeming fans with beautiful display of the round leather game but MFM FC emerged the better side at the end of 90 minutes securing yet another vital home victory.

The hosts dominated possession of the game for the first 15 minutes and created two scoring chances but they were unlucky not to get the opening goal as Adebayo Waheed and Olatunbosun Sikiru failed to hit the target.

Akwa United's Aniekeme Asuquo had a golden opportunity to put his team in front on 20 minutes when he pounced on a pass from his teammate and had Folarin Abayomi to beat but his last effort on the ball hit the woodwork.

With less than 20 minutes to wrap up the first half of the game, Waheed set Olatunbosun up with a pass after a nicely executed counter-attacking move, the winger put the ball past Emmanuel Iwu with a brilliant finish to give his side the lead.

Abdul Makaiba and his wards came out strong and more determined and mounted pressure upon pressure on the Olukoya Boys who were tactical and disciplined with their defending in the second 45 minutes of the exchange.

The two sides came close to scoring on two occasions but their forwards wasted the goal opportunities. Micheal Ibe and Victor Mbaoma were presented with an opportunity to put the game on level terms but they failed to make their efforts count in front of goal.

MFM FC would have won the game by two goals to nothing but Adebayo Waheed threw away a glorious chance with few minutes to end the tension-soaked encounter after connecting a lovely pass from Akuneto Chijioke.

At the end of the 90 minutes, the Lagos-based team secured their 4th home win of the season as they conquered the Promise Keepers 1-0 and moved from 17th spot on the NPFL table to 8th position with 12 points from eight league games.
