Technical Crew of Rivers Angels
Head Coach of Nigeria Women Football league side, Edwin Okon has reiterated their desire to retain the NWFL title this season.

The reigning NWFL champions finished second behind Bayelsa Queens in Group A in the regular season and will be jostling for the title alongside three other teams when the Super 4 starts in Benin on September 11, 2017.

Already, bookmakers have ruled out the Port Harcourt side for the title following what they called unconvincing performance from the Edwin Okon tutored side during the regular season.

Rivers Angels played a total of 13 matches, drawing 4, losing 2 and picking a total of 7 victories with one of those on the road.

The former Super Falcons gaffer while reiterating his side’s willingness to retain the NWFL title commended the Aisha Falode led board for ensuring the regular season went down well. “I must commend the current NWFL board for a job well done,” Okon began.

“Not only did we have a hitch free season, for the first time in a long while, we didn’t record any walkover. “And from what I saw in Lagos during the Super draws, I must say the league has really improved,” he added.

As for the Super Four which is expected to kickoff on September 11-16 in Benin, Okon said the trio of Bayelsa Queens, Nasarawa Amazons and Delta Queen are familiar foes to his side. “We’ve been working very hard for the Super Four, training everyday to ensure we keep our fitness,” said Okon.

“The three teams are well known to me and the players so we just have to think of how to keep the title,” he stated.

Edwin Okon equally took out time to commend the Edo State Government on accepting to host the Nigeria Women Football League Super Four.

“The Edo State Government did well to accept hosting the Super Four tourney in Benin,” said the former Super Falcons gaffer.

“It simply tells you how much effort Aisha Falode’s led board is putting in to promote the league.

“And the prize money for this season’s winner and runners-up is a welcome development,” summed Okon.

The Jewel of Rivers is expected to begin their title defence against Delta Queens on September 12, at the Samuel Ogbemudia stadium, Benin.

In the meantime, Rivers Angels will be in action this Wednesday against Delta Babes of Asaba in the round of 32 fixtures of the Aiteo Cup at the Yakubu Gowon Stadium.

And speaking ahead of the game, Team manager of the Jewel of Rivers, Matilda Otuene has called on fans to come out in their numbers to cheer the girls to victory.
