Despite Super Eagels coach, Gernot Rohr’s insistence that the players plying their trade in the Nigeria Professional Football League are not good enough to merit invitation to the national team, his assistant, Joseph Yobo has said that there are indeed good players in the domestic league.

Speaking on Brila Sports last Friday, the former Everton reliable defender said there are good talents plying their trade in the Nigeria Professional Football League but such players need to take their chances and not be timid when they get called up to the national team.

Super Eagles head coach, Gernot Rohr who recently penned a new contract had been mandated by the NFF to live in the country and monitor players in the domestic league.

" We have good players in the local league but they must change their mentality when they are called up to the national camp because it is different,” begins the former Everton star who captained Nigeria to win the 2013 AFCON in South Africa.

" When they get the opportunity and are invited to the Super Eagles, they must not be shy or timid. They need to take their chances and must be bold to show their qualities because they got the invitation on merit in the first place.”

Yobo also stated that it is up to the head coach to bring the local based players into the national team.

" Inviting players to the national team is the decision of the coaches and there must be good understanding between the head coach and the Federation towards such invitations,”

Yobo also said adding that lack of television coverage also makes it difficult for national team selectors to watch and access the players.
