The Nigeria Football Federation has signed a two - and - half year contract extension with Super Eagles’ Technical Adviser Gernot Rohr, potentially until 2022 World Cup, www.sportflames.com can report.
Rohr disclosed that the Super Eagles are dominated by young but experience players is what motivated him to agree to pen the deal despite the stringent conditions that was included in the new contract. Rohr is expected to sign the contract extension next week.
The Franco-German coach who accepted a pay cut also agreed to stay in Nigeria as he continues to be in charge till year 2022.
" I am proud of the confidence shown by NFF, it is rare to work in the same national team for more than six years. Our team has a good future, our players have discipline and the staff is working in the same spirit.”
Rohr, who has been in charge of the Super Eagles since 2016, reveals his future plans for the West African giants.
" Yes, we want to go to the next Afcon and do very well there. And we want to start the World Cup qualifiers well and participate in Qatar with good results there,” he continued.
" I am happy to continue with the squad we built together since 4 years. Stability is important for progress and complicity. There is still big work to do. With the commitment of the players and the support of the fans, we will be able to do great things.”

Rohr, who played as a defender and has coached Burkina Faso, Niger Republic and Gabon national teams before taking up the same role with Nigeria said the Super Eagles players and officials are one of the reason to continue working with the team and must remain level-headed, stay focused going forward.
According to reports, among other things, Rohr is expected to qualify and lead Nigeria to the African Nations Cup next year and the 2022 World Cup
Having qualified the team for the World Cup in Russia, leading Super Eagles to the group stage outing, he led the the three-time African champions to win the bronze at the 2019 African Cup of Nations in Egypt.
He has done a very good job since his arrival in Nigeria, and when someone does a good job, he gets a reward. We are proud to have taken Mr. Rohr on board and we are delighted to be signing this contract extension with him.”
