Chan Eagles and former MFM midfielder Ifeanyi Ifeanyi has finally open up on why he terminated his contract with Algerian side ES Setif despite signing a 3-year contract with the North African side.

The former Flying Eagles midfielder revealed that financial issues and lack of regular game time forced him out of the Algerian side.

Speaking with Boluwaji Ogunmola on BCOS Television, the experienced midfielder said he had to terminate his contract with the club because they were passing through financial challenges and could not pay his wages following the imprisonment of the Club's President.

" What actually happened is that the Club President signed me, whereas the Coach didn’t want me, maybe he doesn’t like a black player. And then the Club President who signed me was arrested and jailed. And then the coach wasn’t playing me", Ifeanyi explained.

" Yes, I terminated my contract with Etente Setif, They have serious financial problems and the essence of playing football is money. If they can’t pay me, why should I remain in the club?

" The club went bankrupt because the Club President closed down the club account, so they weren’t paying me, and I stayed for 8 months they only paid me for 2 months. They were owning me 6 month salaries, so I couldn’t continue training and the coach is not playing me while I’m not getting salary", The big players were leaving already and I can't continue to stay there because there is no money", he added.

On his return to Nigeria, the midfielder signed for his former NPFL side Akwa United for few months before moving to Uzbekistan to join Mash’al Mubarek in January 2020.

Furthermore, The 24-year-old midfielder  also said, players and staff in his new club except three have all gone to meet with their families due to the coronavirus outbreak.

Ifeanyi confirmed that the Uzbekistan government is doing everything possible to curb the spread of the virus in the country, but obviously we all miss football action but the player seems very happy to remain at the club as the management allows the three players to train with the facilities.

" Everyone has traveled home, including staff and players,’ We are only three players here and we train together every day depending on how we feel and I’ve been able to maintain my weight because of the training routine,’

The Super Eagles player is, however, optimistic that normalcy will soon return globally and the virus outbreak will be contained.
