30-year-old Odion Ighalo says Obafemi Martins is a role model for him and hailed him for his advise on his Shanghai Shenhua switch.

Former Nigeria striker Obafemi Martins is now set to replace Odion Ighalo at Shanghai Shenhua, according to Chinese outlet Titan Sport Plus.

Martins left the Shanghai outfit in 2018 after suffering a hamstring injury, and he is now set to return to the club as a replacement for his compatriot who is said to be nearing a permanent deal at Manchester United after a sterling performance before the Coronavirus Outbreak that forced all leagues to be suspended.

It will be recalled, speaking at his unveiling for Shanghai Shenhua, Ighalo stated that Martins is a role model for him as a Nigerian professional footballer.

Ighalo said, “Martins is my idol. I respect him very much. He has achieved great success in his career.

''When I knew that I had the opportunity to come to Shenhua, I sent a message to Martins, who told me that Shenhua is a very good club, Shenhua's home and fans are very good.”

Martins who is now 35-years-old, has fully recovered from the injury he suffered while playing for Shanghai Shenhua.

During his first stint in China, the 35-year-old scored 20 goals across all competitions for Shanghai Shenhua and he won the FA Cup in 2017.
