The maiden Edition of Independent Cup soccer championship held in Ilorin on Saturday saw Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KWIRS) and Bankers Forum progressed to the grand finale of the tournament after comfortable wins.

Bankers Forum began the championship played at the Main Bowl of Kwara State Stadium with a commanding 3-0 win over Nigeria Medical Association, NMA in the opening game.

It was goalless affairs in the opening 45 minutes which the Bankers were superior in terms of possession but couldn't capitalize on the chances created with the Doctors holding their own.

They continued the second half with more intensity and were rewarded with the first goal when Abolarin Sunday beat goalkeeper Wellington from inside the box.

Lawal Abdullahi doubled the money keepers' advantage when his delightful free-kick from the edge of the beat Wellington in goal for NMAs, and Laide Ajao makes it three - three minutes after the hour mark to give the bankers a place in the final.

Uthman Huthman was at the centre of the show with hat trick when Kwara Internal Revenue Service, KWIRS outshined the lawyers, the Nigeria Bar Association, NBA by 4-1 following an early lead in the contest with NBA ending the game with ten men in the other semi final encounter.

Muritala Soliu opened the scoring from a wonderful effort from 25-yard five minutes into the game while Uthman Huthman making it two - his first of the hat trick - three minutes later.

Captain, Folorunsho Faisal reduced the deficit for NBA from the spot eleven minutes after going down by two goals.

Huthman returned the two-goal advantage before the end of the first half capitalizing from a mistake from NBA goalkeeper, El-Gambari Ibrahim before completing his hat-trick six minutes after restart.

NBA's Lateef AbdulSalem received his matching order after a dangerous tackle in his own half making it difficult for the legal practitioners to stage a come back.

The tax collectors, KWIRS will however  face Bankers Forum in the final of the competition which will come up on Independence Day,  Tuesday, 1 October 2019.
