Cowrie Rugby Football Club tops the Lagos Rugby Union League after winning their third week round of game after defeating Gozar Rugby Football Club at the Main Bowl of the national stadium surulere last Saturday, 29th July 2019.

The first match saw the Police RFC walking over pass Lagos RFC who failed to turn up for the week three Lagos Rugby Union League encounter.

Cowrie RFC on the other hand, were not complacent with their play at the first five mins of the game as Gozar RFC took advantage of play with Lateef Jimoh getting four penalty tries and one conversion which couldn’t make them secure their first win.

With so much tenacity, Cowrie RFC never lost their grip as both Daniel John, Tunde Abdul, Kelechi Onwunta alongside Collins Gilbert both gave their team an edge over Gozar RFC with the final score line which saw Cowrie RFC winning with 38points and Gozar RFC 19.

Eco 11 RFC on the other hand after failing to appear at their first game had to secure their first win against Kc Old Boys who earlier looked as if they would win the match but couldn’t contain the pressure being sub mounted on the Kc Old Boys.

Kelvin Olisa as usual never failed as he had the highest tries getting two in the encounter alongside Samson Okewo getting a try with Prince Ambere sealing the game with a try as the Ajegunle side defeated Kc Old Boys, 23-19.

While in the Northern Rugby Union League, All time winner of the league at the Northern Region Barewa RFC of Kano had a clean sheet pass plateau bulls as they had to secure their first win with 34 points leaving plateau bulls not to get any score line.

Gabriel John with the first game of the week one in the North had the highest number of tries with four and two conversions with both Samuel Akobian and Joshua Etim had one try each.

Kano police RFC on the other hand alongside Sabon Gari RFC had a penalty try which saw both teams sharing three point.
In a chat with the Technical Director of the Nigeria Rugby Federation, Mr. Abubakar Yaro, he stated that the games were played in accordance to the management of the Northern League Management Committee planned

“The Players behaved themselves and we believe there is hope is improvement and hope it will continue till the end of the season”.

Furthermore, Mr. Yaro also said that the first league matches witnessed large turnout of spectators and for the first time had a commentary while the match was on going. “The first league match was successfully conducted”. He said
