Mountain of Fire and Miracles Ministries FC claimed another southwest derby win over Sunshine Stars on Matchday 10 of the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) played on Wednesday at the Soccer Temple, Agege Stadium courtesy of goal each from Adeniji Adewole Kabir and Michael Ohanu.

MFM coach Fidelis Ilechukwu made three changes to the team that defeated Niger Tornadoes 3-2 last week. Oladejo Oluwafemi, Abubakar Ahmed and Abdullahi Suleiman were dropped for Emiloju Julius, Abah Joshua and Olaniyi Abidemi.

It was a tight and lively encounter for both teams as they entertained their fans with fine display. The visitors began the derby well with a lot of confidence and dictated the proceedings after series of promising performance but they later surrendered to the pressure from the Olukoya Boys.

MFM FC took the lead with three minutes to end the first half when Adeniji Kabir's brilliant strike from outside the box beat Ayo Ojo after he received a loose ball from the midfield and scored his fourth goal of the ongoing campaign in seven appearances.

The Owena Whales created a couple of scoring chances in the second half but they failed to make their efforts count in front of goal. Dayo Ojo's 59th-minute strike from the edge of the box was  saved by MFM goalkeeper, Folarin Abayomi.

The Olukoya Boys sealed the victory in the 67th minute of the exchange when Akuneto Chijioke located Michael Ohanu with a lovely pass following a counter attack initiated by Kenedinum Chuks. Ohanu then finished his run with a beautiful strike.

Speaking after the 2-0 win, MFM FC assistant coach, Alli Suleiman Obinna says he is impressed with his team's performance.

“Looking at how we started the game and how we started the season you will agree with me that nobody gave us the chance that we can be where we are today.

“I am very impressed with today’s game, I am impressed with the way the boys played because if you look at Sunshine Stars they are a very good team. They are second on the table before this game and anything short of victory for us would have made things difficult for us,” he told MFM FC Media.

The Lagos-based team still maintain their first position on the NPFL Group A table with 18 points from eight league matches.
